Lots of shopping

Monday, January 4th, 2010

William was in a much better mood today. We were out most the day with Cheryl and Evie shopping and he didn’t complain at all. We went for lunch at a chinese resturant and William was a good boy, sat in the highchair and ate his sandwiches very nicely for a change. He isn’t great at eating finger foods and things that aren’t pureed or mashed but he did really well today. I’ve been making sure that his lunch is always finger foods so he has more practice eating them and he seems to be doing better now, which is making life a lot easier for me. We then hit up all the charity shops (I’m informed in America these go by the name Thrift Shop – a thrift shop over here is slightly different!) and I got some nice things for William.

2 t-shirts and a fleece  for 2.25

2 toy cars for £1

A clicky clacky toy for 99p

I was very pleased with how cheap things were in the charity shops, in Worcester they were so expensive I might as well have bought brand new items but in Derby I actually make a good saving. The clothes are really cute too which makes a change. Shops usually have tons of girls items and only one small rack for the boys – so annoying. Don’t they realise us mummys want to dress our boys in cute clothes too.

William is working on his sitting. He still won’t sit unaided for long but if you let him lean back againtst you and put a toy he wants in front of him he will pull himself forwards and sit to grab it, of course he then hurls himself back ASAP to minimise the amount of heart wrenchingly awful time he must spend sitting *rolls eyes* that boy sure knows his own mind.

Tomorrow I need to get up early, clean the house, go to town and get the weeks shopping and then Cheryl and Evie are coming over for lunch. Busy.

Grumpy grumpy boy

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Oh William was in a foul mood today. I don’t know quite what the problem was but he was nasty. He got himself all overtired and refused to sleep. He finally dozed off at about 3pm on me but then half an hour later, the bad mama that I am, I needed to go to the toilet so had to move him over the Matt. Bad choice. It was all downhill from the on. In the end we put him in the bath at 5:15 and to bed at 5:30 because nobody – including the boy himself – could cope with the extreme amount of screaming going on. Then the silly boy went and perked up after he had his bath. He lay on Daddy’s lap and giggled at me while I read his bedtime story. Who knows what was so funny about the bedtime story – it was all about stripey animals. Apparently they give William a good giggle.

We have a few plans for this week but not many so this is how it looks so far:

Monday: Dada is at university, mama and Will are meeting Evie and her mummy Cheryl

Tuesday: Dada home. Mama needs to work on her dissertation

Wednesday: Same as Tuesday

Thursday: Dada at university, Mama and Will are meeting Owen and his mummy Louise

Friday: As Tuesday and Wednesday

I haven’t quite decided what to do with William this coming weekend since I start placement in the middle of the next week and won’t see him much from then on I might keep him home and not let him go to Grandma and Grandads. The weekend after he will definitely be away as he is going to Nana and Grandads – he’s going there every third weekend of the month from now on and I’m not changing it even while on placement. So he might go to Grandma and Grandads and he might not! Depends on how I feel and how much work I have to do.

Oh and before I forget – William sat himself up. The boy who refuses to sit even for a second because well – that’s just a big effort. He was lay on the bed leaning against his Daddy when he grabbed Daddy’s leg pulled himself up then let go and just say there. He hasn’t repeated it since but it is William. It might take him another month before he does it again lol. I’m not pushing him, he’ll do these things when he wants to and not before.

Long Day

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

I have a few long days coming up. Matt is at some conference or other and he is going to be out until late in the evening. This morning he was meant to leave the house at 8am but the silly man didn’t set an alarm and trusted William to wake him up. Yah. That worked. William decided today was the day to sleep until 8:15am. Although Matt was up and out by 8:30 so very impressive. He should be back by about 8pm, maybe a little earlier if he’s lucky.

William and I spent most of the day with Louise and Owen. Louise is the best friend I’ve made in Derby and we always have a good time when we meet up. We don’t really do much, lately I go up to her house for lunch, the children play on the floor and we have a good old gossip. Everyone wins. Today we did take Owen down to baby clinic to have him weighed and looked at by the health visitor because the poor little man has been really quite poorly lately. I also stopped off and picked up an anniversary card for Matt since..ummm..yeah..we have been married 2 years today lol. We forgot! I doubt I’ll get a card since Matt won’t have had time to get one but it’s hardly a big deal. Matts parents gave us £50 so we got a Wii game for ourselves and then I might have spent the rest on William :-) I couldn’t help it. I wanted to get him a set of stacky cups which he loves and some nice soft blocks for an extra christmas present from us.

On the topic of presents William now has some under the tree that aren’t from mummy and daddy. Louise gave him one this morning and when I got him I got a surprise package from a lovely girl I used to work with who had posted a present for William and a card for me. I was so pleased as I didn’t expect her to send anything more than a christmas card. I wasn’t very excited about christmas but now some presents are arriving it feels more fun. We also got our first three christmas cards today as well, I thought we weren’t going to get any the rate we were going lol.

William is now rolling master extraordinaire, unless of course, he doesn’t want to. In which case he doesn’t. However he does roll well enough to jam himself under the sofa lol. And this evening while I was running the bath for him I put him in the middle of the bed and put In the Night Garden (GAH!) on the laptop for him to watch. When I looked back he’d rolled over and spun himself 90 degrees and was merrily “typing” away on the laptop. I wish I had the camera to catch that moment, it was so cute!

William is also eating like a trooper. Today he devoured 22oz milk (probably have 30 by the days end) half a rush mushed with milk, a slice of toast, a jar of lamb stew, two pots of apple and strawberry, nearly a whole jar of casserole and a fromage frais. He seems to be over his sicky stage although he did hold a mouthful of apple in his mouth and then kindly deposited it on my shoulder! Nice!

Wednesday meet up

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Today was our usual Wednesday meet up at Tubby Bears soft play area. We had fun as usual :-) in this case it is the royal we, William spent most of the time having a nice little nap in my arms. I love it when he does that, it’s the only time he snuggles – because he can’t argue about it lol. At the moment the meetup is more for the mummies benefit than anything else, all the kids are a little young for the play area but if the child is under one you get free entry so it’s a warm, dry, free place to meet up. Afterwards we went in to town for alittle bit. Not really to do anything just to kill a little time. William was very well behaved, he has been such a pleasure to have around this week, it makes a lovely change usually I spend Monday and Tuesday and sometimes Wednesday getting him back in to routine after he’s been away for the weekend. I’m going to see how he goes this weekend but if he ends up being vile again next Monday/Tuesday then I’m going to have to think about reducing the number of weekends he goes to his Grandma and Grandads.

My Nibsy Noodle Man

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

My poor little man has the misfortune to have a mothere who nicknames him rather too frequently and never uses hi full name if at all possible. His current nickname in full is “Mr Nibsy Noodle Man” but we call him Nibsy for short. It came from when I was pregnant and I would refer to him as His Nibs, then we moved on to Nibsy and who knows where on earth I got Noodle Man from but there you g. Poor lad.

We’ve had a busy week of it this last week. Monday William went to his Grandmas house, Tuesday my parents cam over and we took him to Carsington water, Wednesday we met up with ur baby group at soft play and then went shopping in town with some of the ladies, I got William a very cute little shirt and tie for him to wear at chistmas and a grey jacket with tigger on the back which I just couldn’t say no to. Thursday I met up with my friend Louise and her three children – I never met the girls before but they were such lovely polite chatty children – a pleasure to be with and today we’ve been over to Nottingham to meet a long time online friend in real life. Will has been very well behaved.

Updated later since I ran out of time last Friday when I was typing this up!!

On Sunday Will went to Grandma and Grandad again since most times he goes Grandad is at work and they don’t see each other. I picked Will up this afternoon and took him to our mother/baby group. He didn’t nap at grandmas…again so he slept through the whole thing. *sigh* at least I was able to have a nice chat with some other mums.

This week is packed up again, tomorrow me Will and Daddy are going to the big park, then Wednesday is our mummy meet up at soft play as usual, Thursday we are going out with Louise and Owen (maybe even swimming!!) and Friday I want to make a stat on xmas cards – that is if William will let me paint his hands to get prints – wish me luck on that one people.

Please excuse spelling errors – I can spell I promise it’s just that Matts keyboard is toally useless and half the keys don’t work unless you take a sledge hammer to them!!

Back online

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Yey, we are back online!

I am intending to do a nice long update but William is resisting his naptime so it will depend on how long he will tolerate being left to settle himself before he decides to have hysterics, or maybe I’ll be lucky and he’ll give up on his groaning.

It’s been just over a week since we moved but it feels a lot longer, the downstairs rooms are still a big mess *sigh* it’s driving me crazy but moving is a lot harder when you have a 4 month to care for as well.

The kitchen in our new place was pretty nasty so we have painted it up fresh and my dad came up Saturday and fitted in new shelves and worktops. It looks great :-)

William on the whole is doing well. He is now taking three solid meals a day. I am still giving him milk first followed by food but am going to start doing it the other way around soon. With solids and then milk to finish him off. I am also trying him on water and juice from a sippy cup rather than a bottle. He is a little bemused by the whole sippy cup thing but I keep trying and he seems to be getting somewhere with it.

The other day he manged to sit up unaided, not for long though before he realised what he was doing and fell flat on his side lol, he hasn’t really managed to repeat this feat since but I keep sitting him up surrounded by soft things and letting him try. I must try and snap a picture next time he does it. the camera never seems to be handy when I need it.

We have been busy making some new mummy friends. We see Owen (9 months) and his mummy Louise a lot, in fact we met up this morning for coffee and a wander around the local shopping centre. We spent about 3 hours in town and it flew by – we never stop talking. We have also met a new mummy and little girl called Stef and Lottie. Lottie is about 4 weeks younger than William and Rhian and Sophie, Sophie is 6 months. Together we are going to to be running a local mums meet up on Wednesdays at a soft play area.

Monday afternoons we have astarted a year long PEEP course which is basically a social and creative activities group for mums of babies 12 months and under. As well as attending group we can put together a portfolio of work based on the session and send it of f to gain a college certificate – how cool is that? I’m really looking forward to it. Today was our first session so it was mostly meeting each other. There seem to be some really nice people there. The oldest baby was 7 months and I’m telling you William is pretty much the same size as him(!) my kid is HUGE.

Todays foods:

  • Heinz oat and apple baby cereal
  • Haricot bean and tomato casserole (dude this is just baked beans I swear!!)
  • Cheesy Vegetables

Todays cute moment:

  • William making eyes at Lisa who runs the PEEP course

Tomorrow:

  • Puree up some veggies and freeze for Williams meals, no more jars now our kitchen is sorted
  • Ironing

A short break

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

There will be a short break in updates here as we move house tomorrow. We will have to wait a while for phone lines and broadband to be sorted out. I’ll try and get online at the library and update from there to let you all know what’s going on.

William hasn’t been himself today at all. To be honest I think the manic packing has scared him a little, he keeps looking really puzzled and has been very clingy and cuddley, not unsual for most babies but William is like me, he doesn’t love cuddles.

Yesterday Will and I met our friends Louise and Owen and went to Messy Play at the local surestart centre. Wills is a bit young still for the sand, water and glue play but we did some hand prints and then he lay on the mats and played with the baby toys that were there. He was a big fan of the caterpillar, which we have at home but at home he NEVER pays it the slightest bit of attention *sighs* go figure!

Sleep wise he thought it might be funny to have a little chat in the middle of the night, from 3am-5am and also demand feeding at either end of that time scale. He did go back to sleep at 5am and stayed down until 8:30. That was a nice treat, he’s usually up and ready to go by 7am at the latest. Just a shame he needed to be awake for 2 hours in the night to acheive it.

Todays foods:

  • Apple and rice for breakfast
  • “Grandpas Sunday Roast” jar by Cow and Gate. William loved this. I’ve tried him on a couple of jars before and he usually will take 3-4 baby spoons at most. He ate 1/4 of a jar today so it must have been tasty. Smelled good too.

Todays cute moment:

  • His big gummy good morning grin

Tomorrow:

  • Mummy, Daddy and Grandad to letting agents at 10am. Wills to stay with Grandma
  • Mummy, Daddy and Grandad moving stuff in to new house
  • Mummy and Will go to Sing and Sign 1:45 – 2:45
  • Wills moves to new house – YEY!!

Baby Yoga

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Will and I have had a busy day today. This morning we met up with a mummy and her baby in the local park. I met the mum Louise through a site called netmums where you can talk to other local mums, she lives just up the road from us and her little lad is 9 months old. We stopped in the library and picked up some books then had a 30 – 40 minute walk around the park before having lunch in the cafe. It was really nice to chat to another mum. The weather was great as well, the sun as reappeared today and it was really warm, go figure that I had Will dressed for Autumn, I had to strip him right down to his vest and leave him like that but being England as I walked home the wind blew cold and I had to redress him in the middle of the street.

We had to run after the playdate to get to our baby yoga class in time. There were 6-7 other women there who have all done a bit before so I kinda had to catch up as we went along. Wills managed about 30 minutes before he demanded some milk and promptly fell asleep. He did however have the biggest giggle fest during some leg movements, he was just cracking up, I’ve never seen him giggle so much before.

Todays foods have been:

  • Fruit cocktail for breakfast
  • Rusk and baby rice mixed with milk for dinner

Todays cute moment:

  • Williams giggle fest at yoga
  • Head butting the spoon in attempt to eat his rusk and rice faster

Tomorrow we are:

  • Baby massage in the morning, last session – BOO! :-(
  • House hunting – 3 viewings with Ashley Adams
  • Must pick up the remainder of Williams gaviscon

Today he has his 16 week immunisations. Once again he forgot to how to cry and turned himself a lovely shade of blue. He did quite well though and only fussed for a few minutes, he is now in fine form lying on my bed grinning, chatting and working on his rolling over technique.

Mummy and Will went to baby massage this morning. This was our third session. I’ve been enjoying it, Will is more interested in making eyes at the instructor and eyeballing the other babies.

We finally got Wills passport application sent of so fingers crossed it will be with us before the month is out.

Tomorrow:
Stay and Play 9:30 – 11:30
Play date with Kellie and Grace – we just noticed today that they can be Will and Grace, like the TV show. Oh dear!
