Today has been a pretty slow day, William has not been very happy at all, quite sleep and crying a lot. I think he was up a lot in the night chatting to his ceiling so that’s probably why. He went to bed about 6:45 so fingers crossed he’ll get some much needed sleep.

I can’t remember if I mentioned last post that I had ordered William a new pushchair – the one I wanted rather than the one my mother in law bought. It arrived today which was quick as I only paid for it yesterday (£60 off ebay!) I just love it. Three wheels, very sturdy, huge shopping basket and a lovely red colour. Faces parent or outwards too. I plan to sell the old one and fingers crossed it will fetch over £100 which will make me a tidy little profit. William seemed to really like it and I have to say it looks a lot more comfortable than the old one. So very very pleased with that purchase.

Yesterday William seemed mostly keen on his milk rather than solids in a turn around today he was all for the solids. He couldn’t get enough of them. It’s so cute when I feed him, he sits in his high chair with his little mouth open panting like a dog lol. He sure does love his food.

Todays foods:

  • Apple and pear for breakfast
  • Parsnip mixed with baby rice and formula followed by a petit filous for lunch
  • Rice and veggies by Heinz for Dinner

Todays cute moment:

  • William having a go on the swings in the park – pictures to follow

Tomorrow:

  • Mummy meet up at soft play – 10am
  • Buy ice cube trays and blend up some more parsnip to store in freezer

Back online

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Yey, we are back online!

I am intending to do a nice long update but William is resisting his naptime so it will depend on how long he will tolerate being left to settle himself before he decides to have hysterics, or maybe I’ll be lucky and he’ll give up on his groaning.

It’s been just over a week since we moved but it feels a lot longer, the downstairs rooms are still a big mess *sigh* it’s driving me crazy but moving is a lot harder when you have a 4 month to care for as well.

The kitchen in our new place was pretty nasty so we have painted it up fresh and my dad came up Saturday and fitted in new shelves and worktops. It looks great :-)

William on the whole is doing well. He is now taking three solid meals a day. I am still giving him milk first followed by food but am going to start doing it the other way around soon. With solids and then milk to finish him off. I am also trying him on water and juice from a sippy cup rather than a bottle. He is a little bemused by the whole sippy cup thing but I keep trying and he seems to be getting somewhere with it.

The other day he manged to sit up unaided, not for long though before he realised what he was doing and fell flat on his side lol, he hasn’t really managed to repeat this feat since but I keep sitting him up surrounded by soft things and letting him try. I must try and snap a picture next time he does it. the camera never seems to be handy when I need it.

We have been busy making some new mummy friends. We see Owen (9 months) and his mummy Louise a lot, in fact we met up this morning for coffee and a wander around the local shopping centre. We spent about 3 hours in town and it flew by – we never stop talking. We have also met a new mummy and little girl called Stef and Lottie. Lottie is about 4 weeks younger than William and Rhian and Sophie, Sophie is 6 months. Together we are going to to be running a local mums meet up on Wednesdays at a soft play area.

Monday afternoons we have astarted a year long PEEP course which is basically a social and creative activities group for mums of babies 12 months and under. As well as attending group we can put together a portfolio of work based on the session and send it of f to gain a college certificate – how cool is that? I’m really looking forward to it. Today was our first session so it was mostly meeting each other. There seem to be some really nice people there. The oldest baby was 7 months and I’m telling you William is pretty much the same size as him(!) my kid is HUGE.

Todays foods:

  • Heinz oat and apple baby cereal
  • Haricot bean and tomato casserole (dude this is just baked beans I swear!!)
  • Cheesy Vegetables

Todays cute moment:

  • William making eyes at Lisa who runs the PEEP course

Tomorrow:

  • Puree up some veggies and freeze for Williams meals, no more jars now our kitchen is sorted
  • Ironing

All well

Friday, September 25th, 2009

All is well here, still no internet at the house which is annoying so a big update will have to wait a while longer. However we are in our new house, William is well and he even sat up the other day :-) more on that later!

A short break

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

There will be a short break in updates here as we move house tomorrow. We will have to wait a while for phone lines and broadband to be sorted out. I’ll try and get online at the library and update from there to let you all know what’s going on.

William hasn’t been himself today at all. To be honest I think the manic packing has scared him a little, he keeps looking really puzzled and has been very clingy and cuddley, not unsual for most babies but William is like me, he doesn’t love cuddles.

Yesterday Will and I met our friends Louise and Owen and went to Messy Play at the local surestart centre. Wills is a bit young still for the sand, water and glue play but we did some hand prints and then he lay on the mats and played with the baby toys that were there. He was a big fan of the caterpillar, which we have at home but at home he NEVER pays it the slightest bit of attention *sighs* go figure!

Sleep wise he thought it might be funny to have a little chat in the middle of the night, from 3am-5am and also demand feeding at either end of that time scale. He did go back to sleep at 5am and stayed down until 8:30. That was a nice treat, he’s usually up and ready to go by 7am at the latest. Just a shame he needed to be awake for 2 hours in the night to acheive it.

Todays foods:

  • Apple and rice for breakfast
  • “Grandpas Sunday Roast” jar by Cow and Gate. William loved this. I’ve tried him on a couple of jars before and he usually will take 3-4 baby spoons at most. He ate 1/4 of a jar today so it must have been tasty. Smelled good too.

Todays cute moment:

  • His big gummy good morning grin

Tomorrow:

  • Mummy, Daddy and Grandad to letting agents at 10am. Wills to stay with Grandma
  • Mummy, Daddy and Grandad moving stuff in to new house
  • Mummy and Will go to Sing and Sign 1:45 – 2:45
  • Wills moves to new house – YEY!!

Sleepy boy

Monday, September 14th, 2009

William is a grouchy sleepy boy today, he’s mostly slept, eaten, slept eaten and it’s 1pm. Maybe he’ll perk up this afternoon. It would help if he hadn’t spent half the night talking to his ceiling again! We haven’t dont anything today which is very unsual for us. I was going to go in to town and pick a few bits and pieces up but haven’t got around to that yet, I’ll see what mood he is in when he gets up from this nap.

As you may have noticed each day I’ve been listing Williams food. The current advice from doctors is to give milk exclusively to 6 months and then begin weaning. Yeah right. My kid is HUNGRY. He can down 50 oz of hungry baby formula a day if we let him. So over the last week or two I’ve been giving him tasters of food. I haven’t replaced his milk yet, he has his whole bottle and then I give him food. I let him take as much or little as he wants and then when he’s done he just clamps his mouth shut on me. At the moment he takes usually a few teapsoons full but it seems to work, he’s going 4 hours between feeds again. Just a shame it isn’t helping him sleep through the night. I don’t personally agree with this 6 month rule. Apparently it’s because they believe weaning earlier can now cause allergies and IBS. Really? Well why is that my parents generation who were weaned at 3 months don’t have high cases of IBS but my generation who were weaned at 4 months do? I don’t think it’s to do with the AGE of the weaning but what they are weaned on to. Diet is our problem not weaning age.

Todays foods:

  • Apricot and strawberry puree with baby rice for breakfast
  • Tomato and haricot bean casserole for lunch – he liked this one a lot, might have to get some more, picked it up in the pound shop, 2 pots for £1

Todays cute moment:

  • William snuggled up in bed with me this morning giving me those big gummy smiles.

Tomorrow:

  • Aunty Rachel is coming over and we might go to Twycross zoo or Chatsworth house, we’re not sure yet.

Routine

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

So today I have started trying to get William in to his routine, I’ve already had to jiggle it a little but we are doing well, milk feeds every 4 hours and two lots of solids done and dusted. I tried him on a milk feed every 3 hours but he wasn’t interested so why bother, I shifted it back and hour and he took it then. I think I’ll try sitcking to his 4 hour pattern for now.

We took William in to town today as we needed to pick a few things up, namely boxes for packing for the move (5 days to go! woot!) and as we were waiting at the busstop to come home a woman in her fifties was waiting in front of us. She was so taken with William, she was troking his hands and chatting away to him and he was just lapping it up, grinning and cooing at her like crazy. It was so sweet. Usually I have a problem with strangers touching my child but this woman was so nice it didn’t bother me in the slightest.

Todays foods:

  • Fruit puree and baby rice for breakfast
  • Mashed potato for lunch

Today’s cute moment:

  • Williams beaming smiles for the lady at the busstop

Tomorrow:

  • Daddy is going to university, we might go to the park if the weather is good

Late summer

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Phew it’s warm today and not a cloud in the sky. All through August we had clouds and rain and now Autumn is arriving the sun comes out, typical British weather. Usually we don’t have William saturdays because Matts parents take him out since we are living with them currently. However they’ve gone on holiday :D so we took advantage of the nice weather and took William down to the park. Except William didn’t want to take advantage of the nice weather, he wanted to fuss and moan and be generally grumpy. I don’t think he’s a big fan of the heat.

Once we are in our house I am going to start working Will in to some sort of schedule if I can. I think he’s at the age where he can cope with that. I’ve been watching him the last few days and he has a loose sort of pattern so I’m going to try and us that to make his routine. At the moment it’s going to look a little like this for the first few days, I’ll tweak it as necessary.

7am – out 0f nursery + milk feed + solids

10am – milk feed

1pm – milk feed and solids

4pm – milk feed

6:30pm – bath, bedtime story, milk feed

7pm – bedtime

I’m not sure about naps yet, he’s just so hit and miss. I’ll try and work those in as we go along

Todays foods:

  • Apricot and Strawberry puree with baby rice to thicken it up

Todays cute moment:

  • William taking a snooze on me while watching One Tree Hill :)

Tomorrow:

  • Still no plans, maybe a walk to the woods

Baby Sign

Now we’re home he doesn’t want a nap – typical. I’m leaving him in his cot for now because he really could do with 30 minutes. He’s not distressed, just chatting to himself, sometimes he chats himself off to sleep. The baby sign was fun. We learnt the signs for milk, food, pain, more and all gone. pretty much key things for babies ;-) not that I think William is going to be signing anytime soon, even if he were old enough he’d have to be AWAKE to learn the signs. Got chatting to some really nice women after the session had ended (another Debbie strangely enough). It cracks me up how we all share these details about our labours and births, stuff you just would never consider sharing until you’ve been there done that then it’s like some weird badge of honour. :-D

Todays foods:

  • apple puree
  • fromage frais – we did not like that at all!!

Cute moment of the day:

  • William isn’t bigging up the cute today, more of the – I’m gonna whinge at you all day

Tomorrow:

  • Nothing planned so far, how odd! Enjoy the peace and quiet of an empty house

bokbok

Have you ever noticed when you have a child you start to call things by stupid names, or is that just us? Bottles are no longer bottles they go by the name bok bok. “Do you want your bokbok William?” “mummy fetch a bokbok” and on bad days you forget that they are called bottles, for instance “I’ll have a bokbok of pepsi…darn it, I said bokbok!!” Bokboks are bottles, napnaps are nappies and even William goes by the dubious names of Nibsy Noodle Man or Ninja Bill. Poor lad.

Today was not a good day for William. He spent half the night have a nice little chat with his ceiling so by the time baby massage rocked around at 10am he was grumpy and tired. Luckily he managed to cope with the massage and then fell asleep at the end. We then went on an epic house hunting, house renting afternoon. Oh..it…was…bad. He was too hot, he was too cold, he was hungry, he was thirsty, he was tired, he was dirty, he was tired again, hungry again, dirty again. All in a very short space of time. All this time we are walking miles across down to reach various houses because we can’t drive and then filling in a ton of paperwork. He managed to cope fairly well, it was mummy who got in a big strop in the end. On the upside – we have a new house!! No more living with the in laws. I’m so pleased. William has his own room and it;s big so his cot and all his toys will fit in nice and easily. There will even be floor space to lie him down and let him play. We won’t have to trip over his stuff in the living area. Sweet.

Todays foods:

  • Apple sauce for breakfast

Todays cute moment:

  • William zonked out asleep on the mat at baby massage

Bizarre nappy changes of the day:

  • On the floor of a house we were viewing but didn’t end up renting
  • On the desk in someones office at the estage agents – bet they just loved that!!

Tomorrow:

  • Drop in paperwork to estate agents
  • First Baby Sing and Sign class
