He’s back

Monday, November 30th, 2009

William is back home and it seems like he had a fab time with his Nana and Grandad. It also sounds like he behaved really well. He actually stayed in bed til 7:45 which cracks me up given that when he goes to Grandma and Grandads he gets up at 5:30. Williams not silly, he knows Grandma and Grandad are soft on him and he seems to already know that Nana is going to be just as tough about sleeping as Mummy is. That’s the way we like it. I’m not a cruel mummy for making him stay in bed but I am quite strict about his sleeping and routine, he needs it or everything goes badly.

So on to the present from Dad to Mum that we were looking after. I haven’t got the pictures on to flickr yet but I will later. It was a kitten – how cool is that. Dad was having some trouble finding one and I managed to find some students just up the road who had a couple of litters. I snagged the last one. He’s very cute, black with a white belly and white feet. Mum calls him Numpty, I call him Nigel. They both being with N so it’s all good ;-) William was very taken with him but tough luck lad, Daddy is allergic to them. We only had the kitten in the house two hours and he was sneezing and rubbing his eyes like crazy.

I’ve added a couple of things to the sidebar ———> a list of what we are doing each week, which I’ll put in my Monday post as well coz I want to, and a list of important people for William. Just so you have some clue who I’m talking about.

On to this week:-

Monday: PEEP – Daddy is coming this week because he needs to take William when I’m on teaching practice. Thought it would only be nice to introduce him to everyone first

Tuesday: Going shopping to ASDA (our Walmart) with Louise and Owen and then back to Louises house for lunch. I want to try and pick up William a christmas outfit – Daddy has finally agreed

Wednesday: Our usual mummy meet up at soft play. Possibly a trip in to town afterwards

Thursday: Swimming with Rhian and Sophie and Judith and Dex, hopefully Louise and Owen will be joining us this week. I thin afterwards we are going to take some special christmas photos of the boys.

Friday: Nothing planned as of yet. Daddy is at university, I’ll probably stay home with Nibs and relax, I might go to the park with him if the weather is ok.

A cot is a place of sleep, you lie in it, close your eyes and drift off to the land of nod. Please refrain from rolling yourself sideways in the cot and getting your head and feet jammed against the slats, you know it hurts. Also leave the teddy bears alone, they don’t belong on your face.

As for this rolling thing, mummy and daddy think you are very clever for rolling from your back on to your front, however getting stuck there- not so great. Here’s an idea, work on rolling back rather than taking up a sky diving position and waiting for a parent to rescue you.

An additional note, paper is not food, please stop eating the kitchen roll and the adverts out of mummys newspaper, it’s not big and it’s not clever. Have a rusk if you’re feeling peckish!

Love Mummy xx

A weekend away

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

William has been at his Nana and Grandads this weekend. I think he’s been a good boy, well he had been last night when I spoke to mum but they haven’t come back yet as they are coming up after lunch, since I haven’t had any phone calls declaring my son is a monster I would say it’s all good. I dropped him off yesterday with my mum and Aunty Di (Williams Great Aunty), I believe they met up with Aunty Janet (again great aunty) as well. I can tell you one thing William is more clued in on Janet than I am, can’t remember the last time I saw the woman. I took him down on train, since we don’t drive we got where ever we need to go by bus or train NEVER taxi. I had a 4 0 minute journey from Derby – Birmingham which went pretty smoothly. When we got on the train there was no disabled carriage (how does THAT work??) where I usually put the buggy which was annoying to say the least. So I parked him up in a door way and fed him his breakfast in his buggy. Yes it was that early. Then he had a little play on his blanket on the floor before snuggling up on me and going to sleep. He was a bit whiny but not too bad at all. We met up with Williams Aunty Rach in Birmingham – she isn’t a blood relation but she’s still his Aunty. Then we took another train to Kidderminster. On this train was a man sat opposite us with two children who were about 5 and 18 months. They were having a rich tea biscuit for a snack and William was so depserate for one he was practically panting. The dad was really kind and gave one of the biscuits to William to try. He. Loved. It. He’d take a bite chew it all up then give the man a big bisucity grin. I think that man was his new best friend. The 18 month old didn’t look impressed lmao.

Anyway, I’ve got to run now I want to take the opportunity to get the kitchen cleaned up while I don’t have a William under my feet.

Swimming photos

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Just to answer Julies question ;-) the reason for the lack of pictures of William swimming is that we swim in a public pool and you aren’t allowed to take photos in there if there is anyone else in the pool. Well we attend a very popular swim session (parent and toddler) so there is no way the pool will be empty during that time, hence no photographs. It’s a shame because I would love to get some shots of him in the water *sigh*

Swimming

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I took William swimming again yesertday. He still loves it :-) the moment we got in he wiggled himself around in my arms until he was horizontal, started kicking around like crazy and then giggled to himself like a maniac :-) it was so cute. He also likes dipping his face in to the water, though he wasn’t so keen on the dunking part. Rhian and Judith both have little inflatable seats for the babies to sit in and float around, William tried out both of them and he had a great time so I think I might see about getting him one. I also want to get him a little all in one suit for the water because he was getting a little chilly and I think that might help. He tires himself out toally, the moment I got him strapped in to the pushchair he zonked out. Good job because the bus got stuck in a huge traffic jam on Normanton road and we were ages getting in to town. If he’d been awake he’d have been screaming for his lunch by that point.

We did a little window shopping with Rhian in town afterwards. Primark have some really nice fleeced body suits for £4. I want to pick up a couple for William because the nights are starting to get quite cold now. Going to have to work them in to our budget though. Matalan had some HUGE photo frames in with spaces to put about 20 different photos in. I would love to get one of those to fill with pictures from mine and Matts travels abroad to hang in the living room as it’s looking a little bare at the moment.

William is at his Grandmas today so I have been working (sort of) and talking away to my mum on Skype while the house is quiet. I am going to do another hour or so work then got tody our bedroom which is in a right state now. I also have to catch up on the washing pile. We were without our tumble drier for a week because it broke and it was raining so I couldnt hang anything out to dry. Poor old Wills ran very low on vests.

William is off to his nana and grandad Geoffsa tomorrow. It’ll be nice for him to see them and get a taste of the countryside. I was raised in a little village but William was born in the city so he doesn’t get to see as many trees and fields and sheep as I did :-) mind you, not sure there are many sheep around the village these days. When I was little they used to drive the cows through the village, changing the grazing pasture I believe – whatever it was they smelled bad!!

I don’t have a title today ;-)

Well after last nights vomit all over the carpet incident William seems all better. He’s been eating like crazy today – making up for lost time maybe lol. Anyway hopefully he keeps this up.

We went to look at the nursery this morning and it was really lovely. I left Will for half an hour in the baby unit while I looked at the rest of the place and he was really happy up there sitting with the nursery nurse and playing with some musical instruments. I think once money is sorted we might book him in there for one day a week, probably Tuesdays. They operated a really nice “free flow” system where the rooms are open and the babies , well the ones who can move, can move between rooms and chose what toys they want etc. I like that. It’s a lovely stimulating environment but not at all regimented, I’m all for routines which they do have but its not over the top.

Our plans for this week have changed (like always) so tomorrow we are going swimming with sophie and dexter and kiera and then Friday William is going to his grandparents for the day (matts folks) so that mummy can get some university work done.

On a side note so I don’t have to keep explaining myself. Grandma and Grandad are matts parents and Nana and Grandad Geoff are my parents :-)

Yet more vomit

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

I think I’m going to have to take little man to see the doctor, he just threw up all over the living room carpet again, it just isn’t like him at all. I’m starting to ponder the idea of some weird food allergy since he doesn’t appear ill – apart from being randomly sick.

Yesterday we went to our PEEP group. William impressed all the people there but lying on the floor and playing with toys for the entire 90 minute group without demanding a jot of attention. They kept saying what a content well behaved baby he is. Well he certainly doesn’t that from me ;-) I was a lazy baby, there’s a big difference.

We didn’t go swimming today because Daddy’s leg is poorly, plus we had to do some secret christmas shopping for my mum :-) it’s actually her present off my dad but he asked me to go buy it as we have more shops in Derby than dad has around him. I have a picture because it is a cool present but you have to wait because mum reads this blog.

Tomorrow is our mummy meet up at 10am but before we can go to that I have an appointment to visit a nursery with William. I don’t want him to go to his grandparents ALL week long while I’m on teaching practice but his daddy is going to need time at home to work on his PhD thesis without running around after Will. So I think I want to put William in to nursery for two sessions a week. Monday AM and Tuesday PM. I’ll see what the nursery is like though as being a nursery nurse/teacher myself I’m kinda picky about these things.

This weekend is a big one for William. He’s going all the way to Worcestershire to stay with his Nana and Grandad Geoff (my mum and dad) he hasn’t stayed there all alone before but I can garuntee HE is going to have a great time. What mum and dad think though ;-) lol I’m sure they’ll all have fun.

Still poorly

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

My poor little man still isn’t himself at all. He just won’t eat much. He seems ok in himself so I’m not worrying too much and he looks healthy enough, he just doesn’t want to eat really :-S he is taking some extra milk at the moment so I am wondering if his teeth are hurting him where they are breaking through and that’s why he’s refusing to eat solids.

Again, he has been at matts parents this weekend and agan guess what time he got up? Yup 5:30. I’m seeing a pattern here. He was very upset when he got home and had HUGE bags under his eyes, he kept crying. I gave him some calpol (tylenol) for his teeth and cuddled him off to sleep. He’s been down for an hour now, it’s a little close to bed time but he’s so worn out I think I’ll leave him for now.

This week is lookng to be a little busier than last, depending on how William is. To be honest thought he might enjoy the time in the house, relaxing and playing but it seemed to drive him a little bit crazy lol, his mummy too. I think we’re better off out and about. So this is how our week looks at the moment:

Monday: PEEP group from 1 – 3pm
Tuesday: Swimming with Daddy
Wednesday: Mummy meet up at softplay 10 – 2
Thursday: Nothing so far
Friday: Going to Birmingham

We may slot in another swim session with Sophie and Dexter but that hasn’t been arranged yet.

This week while I’ve been at home I’ve got all of Williams christmas presents wrapped up, apart from the main one because it’s an awkward kind of shape. I don’t know if I mentioned on here but for his main present we have brought him a 3-1 baby walker shaped like a car. It’s so cool. I must snap some pictures for you. It retails at £90 brand new but we got it second hand from a mummy friend for £35. It’d barely been used as her son started walking a week after she brought it for him. I got him a few other bits and pieces as well but you have to wait til christmas for photos of that. I haven’t got him too much because he is so little and how much does a 7 month old need really? Besides he’ll get presents from other people as well.

I’m looking forward to having christmas with a child around, even if he is too young to understand lol. I want to take him to a carol service as I LOVE carols but they are later on in the evening so it will be a case of seeing how he is behaving that day. We are also attending a christmas party with some other mummy friends at the softplay centre. The manager is being really nice and letting us use the party room free of charge as a thankyou for visiting them on a weekly basis :-) Plus Rhian, Judith and I have plans to take our three little uns to visit santa in the local shopping centre. They already have santas grotto set up with all the sparkly lights and fake snow – I think I might love it more than William :-D

Poorly Boy

I am at home with a poorly boy today, he is back in bed at the moment but I’m expecting him to get up soon. Last niht he refused to eat his tea at all so we gave him a bottle of milk instead, he took 3oz of that before crying and crying. Matt brought him upstairs to me so he could run Williams bath and we could put him to bed. Cue the first sick explosion. All over me, himself and my bed covers. We got him cleaned up and in the bath which calmed him down a lot and then put him to bed. He refused to take any of his bedtime bottle at all. Went to him a 9:30pm to give him the last bottle of the day, he took 2oz instead of his usual 5 – 7oz. He woke at 2am for a feed which is unusual but since he’d had so little the night before not unexpected. He then woke at 5:30 and I thought he was hungry again, offered him the bottle and he promptly threw up all over himself, me and the nursery carpet. I’m seeing a pattern here – sick explosions reserved for mummy. He flat out refused to go back to sleep and just lay in his cot crying so matt got him up in the end. Apparently he spent about 45 minutes sat on Matts knee watching him work on the computer. That’s very unusual William behaviour. normally he’ll watch for 5 minutes then demand to put down to play with toys. He’s been back in bed for nearly an hour now, I’m just thankful he went down at all. I think Im going to be spending most of the day with a baby attached to my hip – Matts gone to uni now so it’s just me to field the sick, crying boy.

We’ve had a pretty slow week of it since I’ve been ill with a stomach bug too. Monday we stayed home all day while Daddy was at uni, played with some toys, watched some TV and slept :-) Tuesday we popped out with daddy for some lunch but that was all. Yesterday was our busiest day. We met Stef and Lottie and Rhian and Sophie at softplay for a few hours then went shopping in town with Rhian and Sophie.

I’ve just been told that I will be starting back on my uni degree this January. I have an eight week teaching block to complete starting on the 18th Jan and running until 16th march. I’m training to be a primary school teacher. Luckily I don’t have to travel back to my home county to finish off the degree, the university have found me a placement here in Derby , the downside being they have put me in a reception class (kingergarten) which is the one age range I’m not training for. So…..I have no idea abouthe curriculum they follow and planning which has always been my strong point is completey different at this stage of education, it’s like I’m starting from screatch – its going to be a long hard 8 weeks. William will be going to his grandma (matts mum) while I’m out at work. I’m hoping it won’t be ALL week and that Matt will have him some days, if Matt won’t have him then I might look and see if I can’t get him in to a nursery for a morning and afternoon a week. Just to break things up a little.

Ugghh

Monday, November 9th, 2009

William was bad last night. He went to bed fine and slept through til 2am when we heard him talking over the baby monitor, honestly I thnk he spent a good 30 minutes talking to his teddy bear and/or the ceiling. He went back to sleep and woke at 4am whinging over the monitor. 4am seems a favourite time for him to cause a fuss about nothing, he doesn’t want feeding he just wants attention so last night we decided enough was enough and left him there to cry it out. He went back off after 15 minutes. 5am comes – he’s awake again. Im fed up and tired by this point so I go in and give him his bottle. He stays awake til 5:30 chatting to the ceiling some more. Asleep for a while then back up at 6am giggling and talking to himself…again! We don’t let him get out of bed until 7am so he had to lie there and talk to himself which he seemed pretty happy doing. Got hm p at 7 and at 7:20 he decided he needed to take a nap *sigh* Lovely.

When his grandad dropped him off he said William had got up at 5:30 on Sunday morning. Apparently after they fed him his bottle he lay in his cot talking. Yeah. I know. He’s done this for ages now. He often talks himself back to sleep until about 7:30 – 8am. But no – his grandma got hi out of bed at 5:30 and played with him. 5:30? What the…? What type of hour is that to let a baby get up. I don’t care if he’s 6 months old he needs to learn the proper times for things and 5:30am is bed time, not rolling around the floor giggling at toys time. Gah. Then he only took about an hour and a half sleep which is half of his usual amount. No wonder we had such trouble with him last night. William is one of those children who needs sleep in the day to sleep well at night. Muggins here is now going to spend the next 3 days sorting out his sleep pattern again. He’s already on his second nap of the day and it’s only 10am.

Ick factor of the day? I’m feeding William his cereal while keeping one eye on a comedy show – The Vicar Of Dibley. Just at the moment laugh William spits his cereal out of his mouth and – yeah you guessed it – right in to mine. Children lmao.

We did have a nice play together. So far I’ve been playing with him in his nursery but the last couple days I’ve taken some of his favourite toys downstairs and let him play in the living room. It’s better as I can pop in and out of the room doing the washing etc. but still be close to William to play and make sure he’s ok. Will seems to like it too.

This afternoon is PEEP course. I had to make William a “treasure box” this week and he had to play with it. Umm – yeah. I made it last night lol. He has had a little root around in it this morning so at least I won’t have to lie about him using it. Basically a treasure box is filled with different objects for the child to play with and explore. So far William has one of his muslin sqaures, some pine cones, a plastic spoon, some bells, a little soft toy and some christmas ribbon. I’ll try and snap a picture of it soon.

Anyway I hear chatting from the nursery. Better go get the boy :-)
