Long time, No update

Friday, January 15th, 2010

So it’s been a while. Sorry about that ;-) I was bust getting ready for placement – which then didn’t happen. my police check didn’t get completed in time so I am now due to start placement after Easter. I’m not upset about it really as it’ll be much nicer going to and from work in the daylight, plus my father in law will be back working in Derby then rather than Leicester so hopefully I can get a fair few lifts to work from him which will make life easier all round.

Life has otherwise being going along – same old, same old really. William was quite poorly last Thursday, he was sick Wednesday evening and then 1am that night. When he got up Thursday morning he ate some fruit and then went back to bed. He woke crying at 10am so I got him out of bed and my poor little man just flopped against me and went back to sleep. He only woke for about 30 – 45 minutes all day and that consisted of drinking a bottle and throwing it back up again. I was just about to ring the doctors when he suddenly seemed to perk up. Ate a bit of food, drank an entire bottle which he kept down and then went to bed. He was still a little off his food for the next couple of days but he seems totally back to his normal self now.

The biggest news is we finally have a sitter – YEY! The boy can sit unaided. I think he’s a sneaky little wotsit who could probably sit unaided a while ago but hey? Why bother if he doesn’t have to. The last few days I have been sitting with him propped up against my legs or on cushions. That was fine but the all he would do was sit up to grab a toy and then leisurely relax back against me or the cushion. So today we plonked him in the middle of the floor and left him there! That did the trick. He sat for a good 10 -15 minutes with only two little tumbles. Now all my friends can stop going on about how he “should be sitting.” I keep telling them but they won’t listen that he’ll do what he likes, when he likes and no sooner!

I am slowly convincing him that he likes home cooked food better than the very expensive jars. So far mashed potato is a big hit, so is bagel and clementines. He loved clementines!

Anyway it’s late (for me!) so I am off to bed. I’ll update again soon!

Lots of shopping

Monday, January 4th, 2010

William was in a much better mood today. We were out most the day with Cheryl and Evie shopping and he didn’t complain at all. We went for lunch at a chinese resturant and William was a good boy, sat in the highchair and ate his sandwiches very nicely for a change. He isn’t great at eating finger foods and things that aren’t pureed or mashed but he did really well today. I’ve been making sure that his lunch is always finger foods so he has more practice eating them and he seems to be doing better now, which is making life a lot easier for me. We then hit up all the charity shops (I’m informed in America these go by the name Thrift Shop – a thrift shop over here is slightly different!) and I got some nice things for William.

2 t-shirts and a fleece  for 2.25

2 toy cars for £1

A clicky clacky toy for 99p

I was very pleased with how cheap things were in the charity shops, in Worcester they were so expensive I might as well have bought brand new items but in Derby I actually make a good saving. The clothes are really cute too which makes a change. Shops usually have tons of girls items and only one small rack for the boys – so annoying. Don’t they realise us mummys want to dress our boys in cute clothes too.

William is working on his sitting. He still won’t sit unaided for long but if you let him lean back againtst you and put a toy he wants in front of him he will pull himself forwards and sit to grab it, of course he then hurls himself back ASAP to minimise the amount of heart wrenchingly awful time he must spend sitting *rolls eyes* that boy sure knows his own mind.

Tomorrow I need to get up early, clean the house, go to town and get the weeks shopping and then Cheryl and Evie are coming over for lunch. Busy.

mummy, I’m not sure about this!

William has been out with his grandma and grandad today (Matts parents) funny how they are so keen to have him and want him all the time but after 4 hours they were back on our doorstep handing him over lol, not as easy as they though he was maybe, lost of people make that mistake.

Tomorrow Matt and Will are going for Sunday lunch at his parents but I’m staying home and having a little mummy relaxation time. Sounds good to me.

Monday, Will and I are off on holiday with my old housemate Rachel to Great Yarmouth. Matt can’t come because he has classes to teach and we need the money from that. I’m looking forward to it but also bit concerned as it puts William in just my care for 4 nights which I’ve never done. Don’t know how single parents cope, or people who don’t have other halves that help them out as much as Matt does me.

Todays foods:

  • Fruit for breakfast, Daddy doesn’t know what type he just “grabbed a pot off the shelf”
  • Parsnip for lunch
  • Porridge for tea – he was in a big grump and this is a favourite which he always eats

Todays cute moment:

  • All wrapped up in a towel and smelling good after his bath

Tomorrow:

  • Will has Sunday lunch with grandparents, great grandparents and Daddy

A good read

Today has been a pretty slow day, William has not been very happy at all, quite sleep and crying a lot. I think he was up a lot in the night chatting to his ceiling so that’s probably why. He went to bed about 6:45 so fingers crossed he’ll get some much needed sleep.

I can’t remember if I mentioned last post that I had ordered William a new pushchair – the one I wanted rather than the one my mother in law bought. It arrived today which was quick as I only paid for it yesterday (£60 off ebay!) I just love it. Three wheels, very sturdy, huge shopping basket and a lovely red colour. Faces parent or outwards too. I plan to sell the old one and fingers crossed it will fetch over £100 which will make me a tidy little profit. William seemed to really like it and I have to say it looks a lot more comfortable than the old one. So very very pleased with that purchase.

Yesterday William seemed mostly keen on his milk rather than solids in a turn around today he was all for the solids. He couldn’t get enough of them. It’s so cute when I feed him, he sits in his high chair with his little mouth open panting like a dog lol. He sure does love his food.

Todays foods:

  • Apple and pear for breakfast
  • Parsnip mixed with baby rice and formula followed by a petit filous for lunch
  • Rice and veggies by Heinz for Dinner

Todays cute moment:

  • William having a go on the swings in the park – pictures to follow

Tomorrow:

  • Mummy meet up at soft play – 10am
  • Buy ice cube trays and blend up some more parsnip to store in freezer

Back online

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Yey, we are back online!

I am intending to do a nice long update but William is resisting his naptime so it will depend on how long he will tolerate being left to settle himself before he decides to have hysterics, or maybe I’ll be lucky and he’ll give up on his groaning.

It’s been just over a week since we moved but it feels a lot longer, the downstairs rooms are still a big mess *sigh* it’s driving me crazy but moving is a lot harder when you have a 4 month to care for as well.

The kitchen in our new place was pretty nasty so we have painted it up fresh and my dad came up Saturday and fitted in new shelves and worktops. It looks great :-)

William on the whole is doing well. He is now taking three solid meals a day. I am still giving him milk first followed by food but am going to start doing it the other way around soon. With solids and then milk to finish him off. I am also trying him on water and juice from a sippy cup rather than a bottle. He is a little bemused by the whole sippy cup thing but I keep trying and he seems to be getting somewhere with it.

The other day he manged to sit up unaided, not for long though before he realised what he was doing and fell flat on his side lol, he hasn’t really managed to repeat this feat since but I keep sitting him up surrounded by soft things and letting him try. I must try and snap a picture next time he does it. the camera never seems to be handy when I need it.

We have been busy making some new mummy friends. We see Owen (9 months) and his mummy Louise a lot, in fact we met up this morning for coffee and a wander around the local shopping centre. We spent about 3 hours in town and it flew by – we never stop talking. We have also met a new mummy and little girl called Stef and Lottie. Lottie is about 4 weeks younger than William and Rhian and Sophie, Sophie is 6 months. Together we are going to to be running a local mums meet up on Wednesdays at a soft play area.

Monday afternoons we have astarted a year long PEEP course which is basically a social and creative activities group for mums of babies 12 months and under. As well as attending group we can put together a portfolio of work based on the session and send it of f to gain a college certificate – how cool is that? I’m really looking forward to it. Today was our first session so it was mostly meeting each other. There seem to be some really nice people there. The oldest baby was 7 months and I’m telling you William is pretty much the same size as him(!) my kid is HUGE.

Todays foods:

  • Heinz oat and apple baby cereal
  • Haricot bean and tomato casserole (dude this is just baked beans I swear!!)
  • Cheesy Vegetables

Todays cute moment:

  • William making eyes at Lisa who runs the PEEP course

Tomorrow:

  • Puree up some veggies and freeze for Williams meals, no more jars now our kitchen is sorted
  • Ironing

A short break

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

There will be a short break in updates here as we move house tomorrow. We will have to wait a while for phone lines and broadband to be sorted out. I’ll try and get online at the library and update from there to let you all know what’s going on.

William hasn’t been himself today at all. To be honest I think the manic packing has scared him a little, he keeps looking really puzzled and has been very clingy and cuddley, not unsual for most babies but William is like me, he doesn’t love cuddles.

Yesterday Will and I met our friends Louise and Owen and went to Messy Play at the local surestart centre. Wills is a bit young still for the sand, water and glue play but we did some hand prints and then he lay on the mats and played with the baby toys that were there. He was a big fan of the caterpillar, which we have at home but at home he NEVER pays it the slightest bit of attention *sighs* go figure!

Sleep wise he thought it might be funny to have a little chat in the middle of the night, from 3am-5am and also demand feeding at either end of that time scale. He did go back to sleep at 5am and stayed down until 8:30. That was a nice treat, he’s usually up and ready to go by 7am at the latest. Just a shame he needed to be awake for 2 hours in the night to acheive it.

Todays foods:

  • Apple and rice for breakfast
  • “Grandpas Sunday Roast” jar by Cow and Gate. William loved this. I’ve tried him on a couple of jars before and he usually will take 3-4 baby spoons at most. He ate 1/4 of a jar today so it must have been tasty. Smelled good too.

Todays cute moment:

  • His big gummy good morning grin

Tomorrow:

  • Mummy, Daddy and Grandad to letting agents at 10am. Wills to stay with Grandma
  • Mummy, Daddy and Grandad moving stuff in to new house
  • Mummy and Will go to Sing and Sign 1:45 – 2:45
  • Wills moves to new house – YEY!!

Routine

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

So today I have started trying to get William in to his routine, I’ve already had to jiggle it a little but we are doing well, milk feeds every 4 hours and two lots of solids done and dusted. I tried him on a milk feed every 3 hours but he wasn’t interested so why bother, I shifted it back and hour and he took it then. I think I’ll try sitcking to his 4 hour pattern for now.

We took William in to town today as we needed to pick a few things up, namely boxes for packing for the move (5 days to go! woot!) and as we were waiting at the busstop to come home a woman in her fifties was waiting in front of us. She was so taken with William, she was troking his hands and chatting away to him and he was just lapping it up, grinning and cooing at her like crazy. It was so sweet. Usually I have a problem with strangers touching my child but this woman was so nice it didn’t bother me in the slightest.

Todays foods:

  • Fruit puree and baby rice for breakfast
  • Mashed potato for lunch

Today’s cute moment:

  • Williams beaming smiles for the lady at the busstop

Tomorrow:

  • Daddy is going to university, we might go to the park if the weather is good

Late summer

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Phew it’s warm today and not a cloud in the sky. All through August we had clouds and rain and now Autumn is arriving the sun comes out, typical British weather. Usually we don’t have William saturdays because Matts parents take him out since we are living with them currently. However they’ve gone on holiday :D so we took advantage of the nice weather and took William down to the park. Except William didn’t want to take advantage of the nice weather, he wanted to fuss and moan and be generally grumpy. I don’t think he’s a big fan of the heat.

Once we are in our house I am going to start working Will in to some sort of schedule if I can. I think he’s at the age where he can cope with that. I’ve been watching him the last few days and he has a loose sort of pattern so I’m going to try and us that to make his routine. At the moment it’s going to look a little like this for the first few days, I’ll tweak it as necessary.

7am – out 0f nursery + milk feed + solids

10am – milk feed

1pm – milk feed and solids

4pm – milk feed

6:30pm – bath, bedtime story, milk feed

7pm – bedtime

I’m not sure about naps yet, he’s just so hit and miss. I’ll try and work those in as we go along

Todays foods:

  • Apricot and Strawberry puree with baby rice to thicken it up

Todays cute moment:

  • William taking a snooze on me while watching One Tree Hill :)

Tomorrow:

  • Still no plans, maybe a walk to the woods

Baby Yoga

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Will and I have had a busy day today. This morning we met up with a mummy and her baby in the local park. I met the mum Louise through a site called netmums where you can talk to other local mums, she lives just up the road from us and her little lad is 9 months old. We stopped in the library and picked up some books then had a 30 – 40 minute walk around the park before having lunch in the cafe. It was really nice to chat to another mum. The weather was great as well, the sun as reappeared today and it was really warm, go figure that I had Will dressed for Autumn, I had to strip him right down to his vest and leave him like that but being England as I walked home the wind blew cold and I had to redress him in the middle of the street.

We had to run after the playdate to get to our baby yoga class in time. There were 6-7 other women there who have all done a bit before so I kinda had to catch up as we went along. Wills managed about 30 minutes before he demanded some milk and promptly fell asleep. He did however have the biggest giggle fest during some leg movements, he was just cracking up, I’ve never seen him giggle so much before.

Todays foods have been:

  • Fruit cocktail for breakfast
  • Rusk and baby rice mixed with milk for dinner

Todays cute moment:

  • Williams giggle fest at yoga
  • Head butting the spoon in attempt to eat his rusk and rice faster

Tomorrow we are:

  • Baby massage in the morning, last session – BOO! :-(
  • House hunting – 3 viewings with Ashley Adams
  • Must pick up the remainder of Williams gaviscon
